Privacy Policy

This site, justinlargo.com, is a personal blog run by Justin Largo. This page explains what data the site collects, who else touches it, and what choices you have. The short version: I don’t collect your name, email, or account details, because there are no accounts and no forms. Analytics are anonymous. Ads are served by Google and use cookies, which you can control.

What this site collects

Server logs. The site is static and hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log standard request data (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) to operate and secure the service. I don’t have access to raw per-visitor logs. See GitHub’s Privacy Statement for details.

Nothing else from you directly. There are no comment forms, newsletters, or logins. If you contact me through the links on the About page, that conversation happens on that third party’s platform under its own terms.

Analytics (Umami)

I use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand which posts people read and where traffic comes from.

  • Umami does not use cookies and does not store anything in your browser.
  • It does not collect personal information. IP addresses are used only to derive a temporary, anonymous daily identifier and are not stored.
  • The data I see is aggregate: page views, referrers, country, browser and device type.
  • Umami respects the “Do Not Track” browser setting.

The embedded game. Motions of the Dead on the Projects page reports to the same Umami website this blog uses, and it is deliberately quiet. The game’s tag sets data-auto-track="false", so it records no page view of its own — opening the Projects page counts once, from this site’s own tag, not twice. What the game does send is four named events, and only these four:

  • motd:run_start — a run began.
  • motd:run_end — a run ended, with the wave number reached and the score.
  • motd:mission_done — a mission was completed, with its id and star rating.
  • motd:drill_done — a training drill was completed, with the drill family, how many scenes it ran and how many were perfect.

The motd: prefix names the project the event came from, so events from anything else embedded here later stay separable.

Every value in those events is a whole number or a short fixed label. The game never sends your saved progress, anything derived from it, your keystrokes, or any identifier. It reports only from justinlargo.com, so running the game from a local copy sends nothing, and if the analytics script is blocked the game plays exactly the same.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads.

  • Google uses advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick / DART cookie, to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • These cookies let Google and its partners show you ads that may be relevant to you and to measure ad performance. Google may also use device identifiers and similar technologies for the same purposes.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and use their own cookies.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser.

  • This site itself sets no tracking cookies. Umami is cookieless.
  • Google AdSense sets cookies as described above. These are third-party cookies controlled by Google, not by me.
  • Preferences. The light/dark theme toggle stores your choice in your browser’s local storage so it persists between visits. This stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
  • Interactive content. Some pages may include browser-based games or tools. These may use local storage to save things like game progress or settings. That data stays in your browser, is never transmitted to me, and is removed if you clear your browser’s site data.

You can block or clear cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings. The site works with cookies disabled; some ads may be less relevant.

Posts link to other websites. I’m not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Check their policies before sharing anything with them.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

I’ll update this page if the site’s practices change, and bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
